In February 2007, a joint venture between Northview Hotel Group, Behringer Harvard and Five Star Realty acquired Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys. The unique property sits on 59 acres and includes a 177-key hotel and 297 privately owned villas. The property also includes a full-service marina, retail and office space, 25,000 square feet of meetings space, three gift shops, five F&B outlets, tennis courts, a kids’ club and a spa.

NVHG Management has been engaged to manage the property on behalf of the joint venture. During 2007, there will be a number of changes at the resort, as Northview Hotel Group’s proprietary management systems are implemented. To oversee the day to day operations of the resort, in April 2007, Steve Bello was hired as the resort’s managing director.

During 2007 and into the first quarter of 2008, Northview is overseeing a $30m renovation of the resort, including a full guestroom remodel of all 177 guestrooms, major upgrades to the hotel’s HVAC system, upgrades to the public areas, amenities, landscape and hardscape, and major changes to the hotel’s main pool and food and beverage outlets. The design team, selected by Northview Hotel Group, includes: HKS for architecture, EDSA for landscape architecture and Design Directions for interior design.
